Strand Craft Yacht & Supercar for Sale at $27.5 Million

The Strand Craft 122 superyacht / supercar combo we first told you about back in May has moved beyond the concept stage into a production-ready rocketship. The first example has just been listed for sale by Sweden's Gray Design via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for about $27.5 million, with a slated delivery date of October 2013. The sleek 125-ft. craft will be able to reach a top speed of 55 knots with the use of her optional Rolls-Royce KaMeWa boosters kicking out over 14,000 hp. High gloss mahogany inlays on the foredeck and all-glass atrium covering the cockpit deliver the best facets of both open and closed yachting in one razor sharp high-tech package.

The retro-futuristic Art Deco interior features four large, bedrooms, reception and leather-upholstered salon areas alongside comfortable crew cabins. Elliptical bulletproof windows that stretch halfway across the hull and enough Greek marble to recreate Athens round out the fancy finishes. The specially handcrafted carbon fiber supercar that comes with it is a completely one-off design closely resembling the genetic form and fashion of the mothership. With a rear mounted, 880hp twin-turbo V12 engine it has an estimated 375 km/h top speed and a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. A hydraulic garage door raises upwards and deploys a retractable ramp to become a dockside driveway.

Largest Yacht Ever Built in Italy Knocks Paul Allen Off the Top 10

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen no longer owns one of the world's 10 largest yachts thanks to the just-launched Serene (above) from Fincantieri. At just under 440 ft. Serene is the largest yacht ever built in Italy, and enters the list of the world's largest yachts at No. 9, according to Camper & Nicholsons – just behind the floating brothel Savarona. That knocks Allen's famed 414-ft. Octopus out of the top 10 altogether (No. 1 of course is still, by a mere 18 inches, Roman Abramovich's Eclipse). The billionaire buyer of Serene is unknown. Designed by Espen Oeino, the Serene, which took four years to complete, has seven decks, a tender hangar and two helipads. The high-tech megayacht features a large seawater swimming pool and a submarine with a diving depth of up to 100 metres. The 4,500 square meter interior boasts super-luxe accommodations and entertaining spaces designed by Pascale Reymond of London's Reymond Langton Design.

Ferretti Custom Line 100 targets the younger breed of yacht lovers

Given their high luxe quotient, Ferretti yachts always manage to feature on our blog. So when Ferretti’s Custom Line announced a new bee, it was a given that it would instantly find a mention on our blog. Without further ado, we present to our luxury yacht loving readers, the Ferretti Custom Line 100 from Ferretti Group. For this latest project, Ferretti Group teamed up with Studio Zuccon International Project, the AYT Advanced Yacht Technology who joined the Ferretti Group’s naval research and design centre, and the team of architects and designers at the Centro Stile Ferretti Group to create the Ferretti Custom Line 100. Powered by twin MTU 2639mhp engines, the Ferretti Custom Line 100 yacht can reach a top speed of 26 knots.

The Ferretti Custom Line 100 has been designed to appeal to the younger generation of yacht lovers and thus sports a sporty look courtesy the precise lines on the yacht’s exterior. However the sportiness of the boat has not caused the design of the boat to undergo any drastic change and compromise on space or other features. There is a strong presence of glazing gives the yacht the appearance of a lightweight model.

The interior is distinguished by a contemporary style, offering owners the chance to experiment with a variety of materials. The most distinct feature of this new line of yachts is however the introduction of the wide body type, near the bow area where the master cabin is located. This new feature has led to increased on-board space.

The salon opens out onto a foldaway terrace and is split into living and dining areas and features free standing furniture with a lot of customization options. The lower deck features the four guest cabins, all with en-suite heads and large open windows. There is a lot of outdoor space as well including a flybridge equipped with large sunpads and an external lounge at bow on the main deck.

The stunning yacht is expected to hit the waters in Spring 2011.

Billionaires Demand Military-Grade Security on Their Superyachts

In an effort to boost the flagging superyacht market, manufacturers are fitting them out with increasingly complex, military-grade security systems aimed at assuaging the fears of paranoid billionaires. Bloomberg News reports from the Monaco Yacht Show that security systems similar to the ones on Roman Abramovich's enormous Eclipse are now standard issue for high-end craft. Pascal Wiscour-Conter, chief executive officer of Equisea Yacht Management in Monte Carlo, says that any billionaire buying a superyacht these days shells out an extra $400,000 at least for additional defensive measures, including bulletproof glass and "NATO military technology integrated with NASA satellite tracking to create an invisible offensive security bubble with underwater sonic cannons and surface lasers that evaluate and take out anyone who lays siege to the vessel." Wiscour-Conter notes that the high-tech system "knows the difference between a malicious scuba diver and a curious dolphin, and we transmit all the information to your iPhone four times a day."
